He May Be Glam Master, But He Was a Mehron Boy First!

9th Jun 2018

Argenis Pinal was recently crowned Glam Master. He was the first winner of Lifetime's new competition series Glam Masters, where beauty influencers go head-to-head in makeup challenges to prove they have the talent, charisma and vision to be the next big name in the beauty world. We always knew Argenis had what it took to win, and now so does everyone else. This extremely talented artist has long been a Mehron Boy. His iconic superhero looks are typically created using our Paradise Makeup AQ. But Argenis' talents extend beyond his comic book looks; he is also an incredible MUA as the competition demonstrated.

We have collaborated with Argenis in so many aspects - working with the Mehron team at trade shows, doing Mehron theatre makeup tutorials, assisting with hair and makeup for Mehron photo shoots, and utilizing his art for Glitter Spray packaging. We caught up with him to learn more about his show experience.

Mehron: We have always thought you mastered the glam, but how does it feel to have this official recognition?

Argenis: It feels great because as a beauty makeup artist of 14 years, from when I started Instagram in 2014 I’ve only been known as a face and body painter. I have been wanting the recognition of being a versatile artist. Finally, I was able to show that I can do anything that comes to my head with my winning abstract beauty look.

Mehron: What was it like to be under such time pressure to create the looks for the competition?

Argenis: It was tough being under pressure, but I think my years as a makeup artist has prepared me for that since I worked on fashion shows for Paul Mitchell for 6 years, where looks had to be changed within 10 minutes. But even then, it was never wrecking and the last look took the best out of me because my brain was OUT and I had no more inspiration. But I pulled it together and found inspiration in colors.

Mehron: You definitely stayed true to yourself with your art on the show - bold lines, popping color, and flawless skin. Which look was your favorite?

Argenis: My favorite was the last winning look because, like you said, I stayed true to my art and I didn’t just do a typical beauty look were we have a lot of blending, and it was all about “Making My Own Rules” which is a tattoo I have on my forearm and what I called one of my eye shadow sticks “MUYOR”.

Mehron: You really impressed us and celebrity makeup artist and judge Mario Dedivanovic with your gorgeous runway looks in the finals, which was a big wow in itself, but to make him speechless with your final look was incredible. What was running through your head when you heard those compliments?

Argenis: Well knowing that for the last look, the one Mario was fighting about being perfect, I was shocked because I only had 15-10 minutes to do that one because I was out of ideas. I wish I could have perfected it, but Mario said it was perfect and that meant the world to me. So I was really happy.

Mehron: Part of winning the competition includes launching a product in collaboration with Kim Kardashian West. We have to say we love the colors and coordinating names you choose for your cream eyeshadow sticks. We enjoyed collaborating with you on a limited edition Mehron Glitter Spray package. How does it feel to have your name associated with renown brands?

Argenis: It really is an unexpected dream come true. I would have never imagined that my name would be next to Kim or on a makeup line that we got to do together. So, it’s still sinking in.

Mehron: We noticed while you were creating your final look for the competition that you said, "I can’t get inspired by the colors. I don’t have what I wish I had." Any chance you were longing for some Paradise Makeup AQ?

Argenis: LOL yes. I have always Loved Mehron Paradise and all the colors so I used something within that consistency to create what I did.

Mehron: You utilize Mehron’s Paradise Makeup AQ in so many of your looks. Why are your drawn to this product?

Argenis: It’s such a beautiful brand and I love all the colors and you really get what you want with each stroke. So, they have always been my to go product to cause a statement with my looks. People are always drawn to my looks and it’s the makeup and vibrancy of the product.

Mehron: We have loved you forever - you were our first official Mehron Boy! While you have a HUGE social media presence, we are so excited so many more people were exposed to your talent as a result of the show. And we particularly loved your messaging about creativity. Your last looks definitely embodied that message. Do you have any advice for up and coming artists?

Argenis: Yes. As we develop our ways in doing makeup, everyone is unique because we all work so different and have our own ways of applying makeup. So, we all end up doing what feels right for us and that’s where “Makeup Your Own Rules” comes from. My advice to all artists would be to step out of the box, to try new things and don’t be afraid to be creative and get familiar with as many products as they can. Stepping out of the box in my past three years of doing face painting and body painting, on top of my already 14 years of experience as a makeup artist, was what gave me the confidence to win this show. I take pride in that and I’m really happy with this accomplishment.
