How to Choose the Perfect Fake Blood

How to Choose the Perfect Fake Blood

31st Aug 2022

Halloween is right around the corner and if you’re a horror lover like Mehron Makeup, you’re definitely incorporating some type of fake blood into your Halloween costume and/or special effects (SFX) makeup this year. The question is, what type of blood should you choose for your Halloween look? Mehron offers a variety of different types of blood in different shades and consistencies that have not only been used for Halloween but also crime scene training, forensic science education, spatter patterns and blood stain analysis. Continue reading for a guide on choosing the right blood type for your looks – there’s a blood for everyone!

Mehron Squirt Blood

Squirt Blood:

Squirt Blood is a water-based formula that is perfect for realistic dripping or running blood. Do you need to look like you were just sliced and running from a killer? Or maybe you’ve made an SFX wound and want to make it appear freshly gushing – try Squirt Blood for a realistic effect! Mehron offers two shades: Dark Venous and Bright Arterial. If you want a darker look that’s a bit more aged and will dry up to look oxidized, Dark Venous is the way to go. For a fresher slasher look , choose Bright Arterial.

mehron stage blood

Stage Blood:

Mehron’s Stage Blood was formulated to be just as the name suggests – for Stage Makeup! Stage Blood is syrup based, so it’s a thicker step up from Squirt Blood. It will not dry down and will remain thick and gooey for an all night long Halloween party or a long performance. Stage Blood also comes in a Bright and Dark shade. The fun part about Stage Blood is that it can be used in the mouth , so you can swish it around, spit it out, drool it, and terrify all of your friends this Halloween. If you want even more added fun, they also offer clear capsules that can be filled up, put in the mouth and then bitten down on for a creepy surprise. It’s the perfect addition to any costume!

Mehron Coagulated Blood

Coagulated Blood :

Coagulated Blood is the thickest blood Mehron offers and will not drip. It’s best used to simulate a blood clot, scab, or an SFX open wound to amplify the injury. This blood is easy to manipulate, but once applied on the skin it will stay put. Try putting together a decaying zombie with some Mehron Liquid Latex and Coagulated Blood for a super gory effect.

Mehron Blood Splatter

Blood Splatter :

Blood Splatter comes in a convenient spray bottle and provides a perfect splatter effect when spritzed on any surface. Blood Splatter will drip and run like real blood. Use this to make a fresh splatter look across your face , all over a DIY Halloween Costume, or even on a Halloween prop!

Mehron 3D Gel

3-D Gel in shade Blood Red :

3-D Gel in Blood Red has a unique consistency. It’s a gelatin and must be slightly heated up first to be activated. You can either heat it up in a microwave or simply stick the bottle in a cup of hot water to melt the product down. Once liquified and squeezable, you can manipulate this gel blood to be any shape you want as it stretches and pulls – but work fast, because once it dries down it will stay put in whatever position you’ve formed it in, as it cures to a rubbery finish. This can work well to create solidified drip effects, a colored wound, or even a burn effect.

Now that you know a little bit more about Mehron’s blood types, you can choose the one that best fits your look.
