Meet Shanice Wadell, a talented artist with a passion for Special Effects Makeup (SFX). Shanice discovered her love for the industry in 2016 and has been pursuing her dreams ever since. She credits her parents for providing her with a very artistic upbringing, which ultimately fueled her creative passion.

Shanice was first introduced to SFX through SyFy Channel’s Face Off. She and her family watched the show religiously and discussed their favorite contestants. One night, her mom said something that would change Shanice's life forever: “Shanice, I bet you could do what they are doing, you would do great work”. This sentence sparked Shanice's interest in SFX and ultimately led her to pursue it as a career.

As with any artistic pursuit, Shanice has faced some struggles along the way. When we asked Shanice about some of her struggles she faces as an artist, she explains, “For me though, especially these past 3 years, I have learned that I don’t need to consistently bang out look-after-look to post to my platforms just to stay “relevant”. SFX and Makeup Art has always been my “Happy Place” and I never want to diminish it to feel like a chore. Nowadays, I create my looks and characters based on my own time and if and when I am truly feeling inspired.”.

One of the staple brands in Shanice's SFX kit is Mehron, with Paradise Makeup AQ™️ taking the spotlight as her favorite product. She even keeps the original containers, now empty, to mix colors and pigments, and to create negative molds and cast mini objects.

She also loves Mehron’s Spirit Gum, “Instead of using regular glue sticks, I found using Mehron Spirit Gum to lay down my brows, positions [them] smoother and flatter without that thick excess residue that glue sticks sometimes leave behind. It is also quicker for me since it only takes one coat and dries fast," says Shanice.

Shanice's dedication and passion for SFX are evident in her work. Her unique and creative approach to the art has allowed her to stand out as a rising talent in the field. It is inspiring to see how one small comment from her mother could change the trajectory of her life and lead her to pursue her dreams in makeup artistry. Shanice's story serves as a reminder that sometimes all it takes is one small spark to ignite a passion that can change your life forever.
