Scary Scarecrow Makeup Tutorial

While scarecrows are meant to literally scare away the crows, most scarecrows don't have much of a fear factor for humans. That is definitely NOT the case with this creepy scarecrow makeup by Rigoberto Yepiz. Recreate this look for Halloween and you will be sure to send some shivers down the spine. Watch the video below to learn how to take your scarecrow costume to the next level. We have included step-by-step directions beneath the video for easy reference.

Scary Scarecrow Makeup Step-by-Step Directions

1. Start by blocking the hair, eyebrows and ears. Place a Bald Cap over the hair and ears, adhering it to the skin with Spirit Gum. Seal along the cap's edge with Liquid Latex, then set with Colorset Powder. Use Mask Cover Makeup to blend the cap into the skin. Block brows with SynWax, then set with Colorset Powder.

2. Using E.Y.E Liner Pencil in Black, map the shape of the scarecrow's eyes and mouth, making the outline as big or small as you like.

3. To create the scarecrow's textured skin, adhere pulled cotton balls with Liquid Latex to the skin around the outside of the outline you just drew, over the ears, half-way back on the bald cap, and the neck. Then add a layer of Liquid Latex on top of the cotton balls you just applied.

4. With a powder brush and Colorset Powder, powder the textured skin to remove the shine and stickiness.

5. Fill in the mouth and eyes with Paradise Makeup AQ in Black.

6. Cut acrylic nails into spikes and apply to the mouth with Liquid Latex. To further secure the teeth, add a layer of pulled cotton balls over the tips of the teeth with Liquid Latex.

7. Cover up the textured skin and rest of bald cap using a mixture of the skin tone shades from the Colorcream palette from the Mehron Special FX All Pro Makeup Kit and a fluffy brush.

8. With a detail brush and the Black Paradise Makeup AQ add detail on the textured skin, then smudge with your fingers to create a creepy, grungy texture.

9. Adhere hair on top of the bald cap with Liquid Latex.

10. Add safety pins to the textured skin around the mouth and eye area.

11. Complete the look by adding Coagulated Blood to the teeth area and around the safety pins.
