Georgina Ryland's Guardians of the Galaxy Body Art

18th May 2017

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has soared past its competition since its premier. It has earned more than $428 million internationally, and continues to top the box office. An obvious fan favorite, we have spotted plenty of body art dedicated to the movie and its characters on Instagram. One look that really caught our attention was a pictorial by Australian #MehronGirl Georgina Ryland, which was actually commissioned by Marvel! The company used it to promote the cinematic release of the movie for the official channels of Marvel Australia and New Zealand. The detail in this body art is incredible.

A well-rounded makeup artist, Georgina has a passion for drawing on the human canvas. In looking at her creations, it is hard to believe that she only branched out into makeup and special effects design just a few years ago after receiving a diploma of Cinemagraphic Makeup at the Australian Academy of Cinemagraphic Makeup. Her talent is apparent. She has been recognized at IMATS Sydney's Battle of the Brushes, where she was awarded second place for her piece in the Beauty/Fantasy category. featured in numerous publications, including Make Up Artist Magazine, Huffington Post, Daily Mail, and Cosmopolitan. We caught up with Georgina to learn more about the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 look and the artist behind it.

Mehron: We love how you were commissioned by Marvel to create this look. How did that come about?

Georgina: I was directly contacted by a media agency on behalf of Marvel and asked to create this look. Such a big compliment!

Mehron: What inspired you to feature Rocket in the look?

Georgina: I’m still learning when it comes to human faces, so I was very keen on either a scene or an animal-based character. In my opinion, it’s easier to recreate the image as close as possible and create emotion with creatures, rather than humans. I picked the particular still image as reference, as it was fairly recognizable, and I liked how exciting the mid-combat looked.
