Classic & Timeless Bridal Makeup

29th Sep 2017

The biggest challenge professional artists face with doing bridal makeup is how to have their clients look like the best version of themselves AND look good in photos. Last week makeup artist Megan Hill Luman shared her tips for achieving that balance at The Makeup Show Dallas. Attendees of Mehron's In-Depth Techniques for Classic and Timeless Bridal Makeup class, learned how to create a natural look that will look good in photos and in person - and stand up in the elements and hot lights.

"It's a very fine line - how much do I do to look good in photos without them feeling uncomfortable like they have a mask on," says Luman. "This is why I love Mehron ... pure color in the products, so a little goes a long way. So you don't have to cake the face with all this stuff just to get enough for a picture."

You can watch Luman's class in the video below. We have also outlined her bridal makeup tips and tricks for easy reference.

How To Create A Classic, Timeless Bridal Makeup Look

Prep. Apply Skin Prep Pro to act as a moisture barrier. Be sure to apply BEFORE any moisturizer. "When you're out in the elements and you know that you are going to be wearing makeup all day long, there's going to be some moisture involved with the skin," says Luman. "This is going to be your best friend."

Moisturize. Lightly apply Cara Moisturizer, an anti-aging, nourishing, vitamin-packed lotion for all skin types. It immediately quenches skin with vitamins and antioxidants. Formulated with vitamin E, shea butter, aloe vera and açaí berry extract that help to restore skin’s vitality.

Prime. Form a barrier between skin and makeup with Velvet Finish Primer. It creates the perfect canvas, minimizing fine lines and helping makeup last longer and blend better. "You can use it on any skin tone, dry skin, oily skin," says Luman "And it's really great for mature skin."

Build a Base. Cover skin blemishes or discolorations with Celebré Pro HD Cream Foundation. This oil free, paraben free and fragrance free makeup is good for all skin types - even sensitive. "This is the best skin finish I've ever found in this business," says Luman. "You can get full coverage with this, so it's extremely versatile. Use the same palette for foundation, highlight and contour." Luman suggests to apply with a sponge for a lot of coverage or a brush for medium coverage. Be sure to blend into the neck for a natural look.

Highlight & Contour. Luman advises not to go crazy with highlight and contour. She likes to keep it soft by highlighting with a Celebré Pro HD Cream Foundation color that is two to three shades lighter than the foundation color, and to contour with a shade two to three shades darker. When you are finished applying, gently blend with a damp Face Smoothie to make sure you don't have any noticeable lines or brush strokes. "I also like to highlight a little above the mouth," says Luman.

Set. Use Celebré Mineral Finishing Powder to set everything. "This powder keeps the integrity of the foundation color," says Luman. She suggests applying with a small brush when working on mature skin to prevent a powder look.

Contour With Powder. Use Celebré Pro HD Pressed Powder Foundation in a shade a couple of shades darker than the foundation color to contour. Start at the hairline, then move to the jawline. Follow with the forehead.

Add Blush. When applying blush, Luman recommends focusing on bringing lift to the face and blending in where you just contoured so the makeup flows together. She chose a pink shade from Mehron's CHEEK Powder Palette to brighten the face. "Mehron's CHEEK Powder Palette is one of my absolute favorite staples," says Luman.

Highlight the Eye. Luman likes to start by applying some powder foundation to the lids, then following with some shimmery Precious Gem Powder in Pearl. She also applies a bit of the Gem Powder to the cheekbone for a very soft highlight. Luman than mutes the shimmer to make the eyes pop by applying matte E.Y.E Powder.

Seal. Lastly mist on Barrier Spray to keep makeup in place all day.
